So essentially Transformers Aftermath takes place after the happenings of Transformers Galaxy (don't worry if you have never played Transformers Galaxy, you can still fit in just fine.)
In Transformers Aftermath, the Autobots and Decepticons have accepted a peace deal at the urging of the Earth governments. In this peace deal the two factions would work together to restore Cybertron, and would then divide the planet into two separate unions (countries, etc.) And takes place I would say about a thousand human years since they left the planet.
THE GOVERNMENTS
The Decepticon Empire
The Decepticon Empire works with a central ruler (the Emperor if you will) and a 3 person council together making up the Decepticon High Command (DHC). The Emperor is not elected upon unless the Emperor is deceased or steps down. The Senators are voted upon monthly and form the core of the DHC.
The Autobot Republic
The Autobot Republic works with one central leader (the Prime) and with a senate as well. In this system the Prime is elected on yearly, and the senators must vote on whatever the Prime decides (unless it's a military decision).
